Model Reflection

06.03.19

After our modelling workshop I went away and attempted to make some larger scale ones. (below is what I came up with)

This was my first attempt at making models on a larger scale. I used black and white foam board. I cut incisions in the board, folding a long the cut line. This allowed me to fold the foam board and create the models you see above.

All of these models are very much so in the Solid/Dark area of the spectrum. This is interesting because the whole idea of my A2 drawing is about falling into a dream state. Darkness is definitely something that I would associate with dreaming however solidity is not. I see dreaming as a much more fluid motion and these models do not represent that. This excise has allowed me to notice this and I will have to revisit this.

My plan/idea for my new model is to focus more so on the meaning behind the model rather than what it looks like aesthetically. I seem to get caught up in the final outcome rather than process of getting there. This is defiantly one of my downfalls and something I need to work on. I need to make sure that what I make has meaning and further explores the idea of falling into a dream state.

I plan to work with similar materials but in attempt to add more fluidity to the model I want to make use of materials such as tracing paper and translucent plastic. This will add another element to the model further helping to portray the message.

My idea is to make the model look like it’s on the verge of falling over. I will achieve this by having slopping diagonal sides. I also want to create coloured light throughout the model – I hope the use of cellophane will achieve this. This will also be very powerful in photographs.

Hopefully I manage to capture this idea in my model…. I guess we’ll find out in my next post!
